Three Marbles
There are three
marbles in my pocket
like magic talismans—
  a green and blue one
  like water,
  a tawny gold one
  like a lion's eye,
  a swirling red one
  like a planet.
Someone will stop me
someday, as I begin
to cross a stone bridge
or enter an old house
or climb a giant tree.
Here, I will say,
holding out a marble,
let me pass.
  And the way will open
  before me.
