This section's mostly for parents and teachers, but kids are welcome to check it out! As a teacher who's managed to work with elementary, secondary, and college students, I've observed that some of the basic lessons we teach seem to be confusing to many children. I've therefore experimented with designing more user-friendly techniques, especially for writing and mathematics. (The reading strategies rely quite a bit on common sense, but certainly work.) The kids I've tried these out on have found them helpful. Adults have been more hesitant—it really is hard to teach an old dog new tricks! But those of my teacher friends who've experimented with using them with their students also report good results. See what you think—and let me know how it goes.
